When Irish Distillers needed to replace the weigher was so that they could upgrade the throughput of maize in the maize cooking process, they turned to Clyde Materials Handling
It is easy for manufacturers to claim low 'cost of ownership' and long term reliability for their products but it is not often that such claims are comprehensively backed up by impressive hard facts.
However, Clyde Materials Handling have always prided themselves in the reliability and integrity of their equipment and when they were recently asked to supply a replacement continuous weighing system for Irish Distillers in County Cork, they were not surprised that the two original Richard Simon weighers were still working faithfully - more than 25 years after being installed when the plant was built.
In fact the only reason Irish Distillers needed to replace the weigher was so that they could upgrade the throughput of maize in the maize cooking process and given the reliability of the existing weighers they had had no hesitation in turning to Clyde Materials Handling.
Although the existing electro-pneumatic weigher was still functioning well, it had been running at maximum capacity for some time and could not meet the increasing demands of the process.
The new constant rate weigh feeder, which is gravity fed with maize from the storage silo, feeds product to the mill grinder as part of the continuous cooking process.
The weigher is controlled by a Richard Simon GP3 controller which can be programmed to adj ust the maize throughput to meet particular demands.
Typical feed rates are 12 tonnes per hour with plenty of scope for expansion.
Brian Nation of Irish Distillers says, "We are pleased with the new weigher and will be happy with another 25 years trouble free operation ! As for the second original weigher, we're in no rush to replace the unit but it will probably be upgraded over the next twelve months".
