Dome valves cement long-term solution
Back in 2000, French cement producer Ciment d'Originy began to experience numerous problems with pinch valves at its plant in Dannes, France.
Custom dome valves allow easy inspection
A leading manufacturer of detergents has purchased and installed four of Clyde Materials Handling's dome valves, worth more than GBP 100,000, in its Russian production facility.
The dome valve made such an impression on Brockmoor Foundry that the company decided to purchase further dome valves from Clyde for vacuum and sand transport systems.
The piston operated seal valve in question formed a key part of Brockmoor Foundry's production of SG iron castings.
The seal valves used in the production process caused excessive sand leakage, which increased production downtime.
"The seal valves needed to be changed with spares every few months", says Tony Thomas, Maintenance Manager at the Brockmoor Foundry.
"The impact on the environment and atmosphere were so detrimental that we needed to look at suitable alternatives".
Brockmoor Foundry approached Doncaster-based Clyde Materials Handling in order to find a solution and consequently purchased a 6in dome valve that was installed at the Foundry two years ago.
"The dome valves have made a huge difference to our performance", adds Thomas.
"They are environmentally friendly and require far less maintenance, besides being far more reliable than their predecessors".
To date, the dome valve has worked successfully under extreme conditions.
What's more, Brockmoor Foundry has subsequently purchased an 8in dome valve for its vacuum system and a 150mm diverting valve for the company's sand transport system.
"We purchased an 8in dome valve because our previous butterfly valves were suffering from intense wear and tear because of the abrasive nature of sand.
Because the dome valve has so few moving parts and reduces any obstruction, it has resolved this issue".
"Unlike their competitor's products", continues Tony, "Clyde's dome valves are simple units to use and install.
Other solutions may be cheaper but they are more complicated and unreliable.
We used to service our valves every few months but now I only need to overhaul them every couple of years".
