Dome valve solves sand handling woes
Throughout 2001, Brockmoor Foundry in Brierley Hill, West Midlands experienced numerous issues with a piston operated seal valve.
The continual erosion of existing pinch valves caused excessive production downtime and additional expense.
The valves needed to be replaced every three or four months, and Ciment d'Originy decided it needed to seek a viable long-term solution.
The company therefore purchased three 150mm dome valves for use in the cement manufacturing process.
"It was commercially and financially unrealistic to continue using pinch valves because they were suffering from intense wear and tear", said the Maintenance Manager at Ciment d'Originy.
"The dome valve, with so few moving parts, was the ideal solution to the negative effects we were experiencing in our production process".
Since Ciment d'Originy installed, Clyde's dome valves have required no maintenance.
After three years of use under extreme conditions, the dome valves are still operating as effectively as when they were purchased.
