The Chemical Industries Association (CIA) has welcomed the publication of the third progress report on the Buncefield incident of 11 December 2005.

The Chemical Industries Association (CIA) has welcomed the publication of the third progress report on the Buncefield incident of 11 December 2005.

The report provides useful information on the causes of the incident; as soon as the investigation reveals information on which companies can act to prevent similar occurrences, CIA will share this with its members, as it has done following the publication of the first two reports.

Chief Executive of the CIA, Steve Elliott, said: 'CIA is pleased to see the publication of this third report and particularly welcomes the urgency with which this issue is being addressed.

There is plenty for members to consider regarding the protection of their own storage tanks against overfilling.

We look forward to playing our part in putting measures in place to minimise the risk of repetition.' Over the past two years CIA has worked in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to develop guidance on process safety performance indicators and to share this through joint workshops with its members.

CIA therefore welcomes HSE's creation of a Task Group to act on the main findings from the third progress report and intends to participate fully.
