Chloride Motive Power has made what it reckons is an exciting new breakthrough in charger room systems CMP's new three-tier charging system offers optimal space utilisation and improved health and safety for warehouses and other electric vehicle fleet users

Other battery manufacturers offer a double-deck system of battery chargers, but CMP is one of the first to effectively offer customers a triple deck system that features the charging unit at ground level.

Most double-deck systems have the charging units above ground level, restricting accessibility and increasing the risk of maintenance operative injury.

The system incorporates an electromagnetic system for removing charged batteries, which further improves safety and minimises the risk of damage.

Photocell levelling prevents damage to rollers and trucks, and the incorporation of cables and charger plugs into hollow sections of the posts reduces the risk of accidental collision and damage.

Batteries can be changed in just two minutes to maximise productivity.

Further productivity benefits can be obtained by the use of one of CMP's battery management systems.

A new version of their CMP.Net multilevel network management system allows users of electric vehicles to manage their batteries so they are recharged at the correct time and for the appropriate duration.

This ensures optimal use of batteries, thereby extending their efficiency and life a tangible benefit for modern businesses with 24h operation.

Each charger is linked to a central PC that can monitor up to 255 batteries and provide real-time status reports.

Charging points can be categorised by truck type or warehouse area, or any other user-defined category.

The system automatically prioritises the next battery to use and alarms are triggered if an incorrect battery is removed.

User-friendly management reports can be easily extracted to show battery status, cycles charged, fault reports etc.

CMP's Product and Application Manager for UK and Ireland, Ian Brazier commented: "Increasing pressure on industry to maximise space usage and to improve productivity means that suppliers are having to re-think the conventions.

Many businesses are working round the clock and electric vehicles (and their batteries) are being stretched further than they were perhaps designed for.

Automating battery charging means that forklift trucks and other vehicles are using batteries that are charged at an optimum level and the risk of user error is minimised.

Using unproductive space can have great financial benefits, allowing more floor space for storage or manufacturing".
