Batteries set to power record attempt
The same technology that drives wheelchairs and electric scooters could soon be a crucial element in the attempt to break the world electric land speed record.
Charging system goes up a level
Chloride Motive Power has made what it reckons is an exciting new breakthrough in charger room systems.
The Marathon range comprises of three sizes - 100, 125 and 150Ah 12-volt monoblocs.
The 100 and 125 fit into a 19" cabinet and the 150Ah is suitable for a 23" cabinet.
This unique feature enables traditional telecom cabinets to be used as an integral part of the overall system.
Exide Network Power have taken this concept a step further by ensuring there is a low ventilation requirement according to DIN VDE 0510 part 2 which means that the battery does not need to operate in a separate battery room, which is so important when space is limited.
To make installation easy, all batteries have been fitted with detachable carrying handles and the case itself has been designed using a diamond wall style to provide additional strength and reduce deflection in high ambient temperature environments.
When it comes to connecting the batteries, time saving has been considered as all the connections face the front; 48 volts is achieved very easily when four batteries are positioned side by side.
Durability and ruggedness is key with the Marathon range.
The containers are made from flame retardant polypropylene to UL94 VO and operate in extreme temperatures, ranging from -30deg C to +55deg C.
As you would expect with all Exide Network Power standby batteries, the Marathon has a minimum of 10 year guarantee service, complies with international standards including BS6290 part 4 1997 and IEC 896-2.
