The Hensel DK range of cable junction boxes for use in hazardous areas is now available from Cee-Norm UK.

The Hensel DK range of cable junction boxes for use in hazardous areas is now available from Cee-Norm UK The products comply with EU Directive 94/9/EG (ATEX 100a) for use in potentially explosive areas Zone 2 and Zone 22, covering gas and dust atmospheres respectively

Typical applications for these products include: metal, wood or paper processing; cement manufacture; agricultural/food factories; water treatment and sewage plants; power stations; petrol stations; underground railway stations; and tunnel and road construction.

The new cable junction boxes are classed as nonsparking devices for low voltage circuits, and can be used in areas that may be endangered by a potentially explosive atmosphere (with the exception of mining operations).

Assigned with protection type n, the devices (during normal operation) are unable to ignite a surrounding explosive atmosphere caused by gases, vapours, liquid aerosols or dust/air mixtures.

Manufactured from a black (RAL9011) impact resistant thermoplastic (PC-GFS), the DK range offers IP65 protection and has a voltage rating of 690V AC.

Five models are available in the range, varying in size and terminal capacity to cover almost every conceivable configuration.

For example, the smallest model in the range - KX2025 - can accommodate six 1.5mm2 cables, four 2.5mm2 cables or three 4mm2 cables, whereas the KX2255 - the largest model - can house four 25mm2 cables or two 35mm2 cables.

Selecting the right equipment could not be easier.

Simply identify whether the potentially explosive area is dust or gas-based, then specify the zone and type of material with flash point/ignition temperature, and whether or not it is conductive.

Expert advice should always be taken if there is any degree of uncertainty.

Threaded cable glands (specified for use in hazardous areas) can also be supplied.

Manufactured from black PA polyamide, the Hensel threaded cable glands come with strain relief and counter-nut in M20, M25, M32 and M40 sizes.

Both the junction boxes and the threaded cable glands exhibit flame retarding, self-extinguishing properties and are free of silicone and halogen.
