Control Techniques Dynamics has developed a novel 115mm frame brushless DC motor with integral drive electronics and plug and play installation.

Control Techniques Dynamics has developed a novel 115mm frame brushless DC motor with integral drive electronics and plug and play installation.

Originally designed for pump applications, the state-of-the-art 48V motor can be adapted for other functions requiring a low maintenance high reliability dc motor with a high-torque, low-speed platform.

Satisfying the needs of emerging nations as well as pump applications, the new DC motor is currently offered at 1hp and a rated speed of 1100rev/min.

The motor core, however, does have a 2kW capability, which is currently derated to meet specific application requirements.

The speed can be trimmed to optimise performance with a potentiometer mounted in the connector box.

Developed from CT Dynamics range of brushless DC motor products, the new motor has a rated torque of 6.5Nm and stall torque of 8.0Nm.

Stall and rate current are specified at 28 and 21A RMS, respectively.

The motor can be provided in the same frame size in options up to 2.5hp.

The motor was designed using Control Techniques Dynamics advanced electromagnetic, finite element analysis package combined with its in-house developed thermal, electronic and mechanical compiled software.

This together with the use of 2D and 3D modelling and the use of fully automated data acquisition systems has ensured the design's continuous and dynamic performance and highest power output to volume and cost ratio.

Control Techniques Dynamics expects its new DC motor will be of interest for use in a number of applications including small industrial units, pumps and irrigation systems.
