Seminars demystify UK G5/4 guidelines on harmonics

Control Techniques are running the third of three free regional seminars in October with the objective of demystifying the new UK G5/4 guidelines on harmonics, which came into force in January 2001.
The first 2 events have been very successful and the final Seminar takes place on Tuesday October 16th at the Renaissance hotel in Reading.
The seminar is aimed at purchasers, specifiers and installers of variable speed drives and other power electronic equipment.
They are an important initiative because practically all electronic equipment generates harmonic current at its supply terminals, much of this is harmless but if it becomes excessive then serious problems can occur.
The scale of the potential problem is recognized by electricity supply companies, which have regulations to control the levels of harmonics on the public supply system.
The free seminars are designed to equip attendees with a key understanding of the supply considerations and what regulations need to be observed.
They are being conducted by one of the countries leading experts in the field of harmonics, Dr Colin Hargis.
The course content is comprehensive and includes: * Overview of Harmonics, their sources and possible effects.
* Electricity industry guidelines; how they work.
* Review of the new guidelines G5/4, comparison with the preceding G5/3.
* Harmonic data for electronic products.
* The roles of the equipment supplier, electricity distribution company, and consumer.
* Question and Answer Session.
