Servo motors handle a range of applications
Unimotor FM is a unified 200V/400V servo motor range in six frame sizes from 55 to 190mm and spanning powers from 0.75 up to 73.2Nm.
Control Techniques, Emerson Industrial Automation has launched Unimotor FM servo motors, designed to meet the widest possible range of general servo market needs.
Unimotor FM is a unified 200V/400V range in six frame sizes from 55 to 190mm and spanning powers from 0.75 up to 73.2Nm.
With IP65 protection, a wide range of shaft variants and flange dimensions including IEC and Nema configurations, a choice of feedback options and other options, the FM range is probably the most flexible motor on the market.
"We spent a long time researching customer needs and analysing their 'wish-list'", says Managing Director, Keith Hedges.
"The result is Unimotor FM, which is the first genuinely universal servo-motor; a stronger motor with more performance options, more fitting and control options, easy upgrade / swap-out and UL approved".
The new low-inertia (fast acceleration) design has further reduced "cogging" for low-speed, contouring type applications.
Performance has been enhanced with computer modelling techniques, with an enhanced peak torque range that means that a smaller motor can sometimes be fitted, giving cost advantages over other motors.
Unimotor FM has a rugged construction, with stronger bearings than its predecessors, being at least 50% stronger on both radial and axial loads.
Shaft strength and stiffness have been tripled, and a full-length key to hold the lamination stack further strengthens the motor.
A choice of feedback options is also offered; incremental encoders with 2048 or 4096 counts for precision applications; resolvers for rugged applications; optical Sin/Cos (absolute and noon-absolute) encoders for high-resolution applications as well as a range of inductive Sin/Cos encoders offering low resolution but absolute functionality.
Customer feedback identified the need for more flange options for motor-mounting as a priority.
A wide range of pitch circle diameters (PCDs) is available to order to meet standard, IEC and Nema configurations, giving unprecedented mounting flexibility.
Unimotor FM is housed in a smooth extruded body, suitable for most general-purpose and hygienic applications and has been designed to facilitate a straight-forward swap-out with the same flange, same shaft, same connectors, as many of its major competitors - but, generally offering better performance and reliability.
"We believe that Unimotor FM is a world beater, and this is just the first in a series of products we have under development" according to Keith Hedges.
"In a rapidly changing market, with changing requirements such as a greater emphasis on energy saving, the greater efficiencies offered by servo-motors becomes even more important".
The Unimotor FM range from Control Techniques is available from any of the 98 Control Techniques' Drive and Application Centres and distributors in 67 countries across the world.
