Cognex announces Dataman 7500 series of handheld direct part mark readers.

Cognex has announced the Dataman 7500 series of handheld direct part mark (DPM) readers.

It can provide readings of all printed and DPM codes for manufacturers implementing part traceability programmes in the automotive, aerospace, electronics, healthcare and military industries.

The reader is rugged enough to withstand up to 50 drops to concrete from 2m.

It combines the firm's IDMax code reading software with its Ultralight illumination technology to read codes regardless of marking method, part material, shape or surface texture.

The series includes the 7500 corded and 7550 cordless models.

It supports USB, keyboard wedge and RS232 communications, and Bluetooth wireless communications.

Both readers combine DSP with a 1280 x 1024 resolution image sensor and a simple set-up interface.

New York firm Hand Held Products helped develop the readers.
