Doosan Infracore relies on Cognex vision technology to ensure complete traceability for the production of parts for its machinery.
Doosan Infracore is the largest construction equipment manufacturer in Korea.
It is vital that the parts for this machinery, destined for construction sites, are completely traceable and guaranteed to have been individually inspected.
The risk posed by faulty parts to workers on-site and to construction scheduling should things go wrong is just too high to take any chances.
That is why Doosan Infracore relies on Cognex vision technology to ensure complete traceability for the production of parts for its machinery.
Most of Doosan Infracore's clients are operators working with large machines in various industries.
Doosan's priority is to ensure that each machine is assembled using the right parts and should the need arise, to guarantee that replacement parts used are the right ones.
To ensure each part is identifiable individually, characters containing information are engraved on its surface, for example on the body of an engine block.
These codes directly marked on the surface of each part then need to be verified, read and recorded.
Doosan had tried vision sensors before but it was vision technology from Cognex proved to be the only solution capable of 100% accuracy.
The use of vision to identify each part in assembly and feed the information to the company information system is vital to guarantee the production process.
Engine assembly involves many components such as engine block, cylinder head, crank shaft, cam shaft and connecting rod with often similar characteristics making it difficult to distinguish between them.
Doosan Infracore has invested in vision enabling accurate character recognition of information directly marked on the surface of a part.
The acquired data is then logged in the company information system ensuring traceability of the part through the entire production process.
Easy to install and to configure, the Cognex DVT530 vision system ensured the OCR or optical character recognition, reading characters and transferring the data accurately to the destination.
Reliability and accuracy of reading plays the most important role in the production process.
Previous vision sensors proved inaccurate thus yielding unreliable results.
Cognex vision proved capable of providing 100% readability even in difficult reading environments.
