Collaboration software to cut Molex meetings costs
Molex projects annual savings of $5 million by using CoCreate's OneSpace Collaboration software during the next year.
OneSpace is used in the product development process to enable globally distributed companies and their partners to share design information and work simultaneously on models originating from dispersed CAD systems, explore design alternatives and rapidly resolve design conflicts.
OneSpace is at the forefront of the growing trend toward a more collaborative process between internal and external product development resources.
"We expect that OneSpace will accelerate our teams' decision-making process, and that in turn will accelerate time to market and time to volume," said Donald K Harper, global manager of CAE for FCI Electronics.
"Our OneSpace implementation will facilitate collaboration by 31 regional and global engineering sites, and improve communication with hundreds of customers and suppliers located around the world." Harper said OneSpace would enhance FCI's goals to design for overall manufacturability and to "design right the first time." Using OneSpace's virtual conference room also is expected to cut travel costs.
"OneSpace enhances innovation because it allows engineers to collaborate more effectively and in real time, and that's the real benefit for companies like FCI," said Tilman Schad, president and CEO of CoCreate.
"Product innovation is a primary goal for FCI because it's a key to market leadership." FCI registers an average of more than 100 patents annually, aided by its ability to allow its designers to meet online with worldwide team members.
OneSpace is slated to be integrated with FCI's existing computer-aided engineering infrastructure, including ProENGINEER software for product modeling design and eMatrix product-data-management systems.
OneSpace adapters allow the exchange of more than 200 document formats, ranging from leading 3D CAD and electronic design applications to 2-D graphics and business document formats, including Microsoft Office.
