Bekaert Engineering has expanded its product development environment with 50 seats of CoCreate's data management software, Model Manager.
Bekaert is one of the world's leaders in advanced metal transformation and materials and coatings.
The company employs more than 17,000 people world wide and reports sales of Eur 3.1 billion in 120 countries.
Bekaert Engineering, a division of Bekaert, is based in Ingelmunster Belgium.
More than a hundred of Bekaert Engineering's technicians work with the most modern software systems available to develop solutions for industrial mechanisation and automation.
For 2D and 3D CAD, the company has relied on CoCreate products, including its Sheet Metal and Surfacing modules, for years.
Bekaert has now added the Model Manager module in hopes of creating an even leaner product development environment.
"We want to improve design productivity and quality by managing our design and project data efficiently", says Christian Vandewalle, CAD Manager at Bekaert Engineering.
With Model Manager, the company can load and store 3D designs and associated 2D drawings, use revision and state control, find all the different places a design is used in the company, and search the company's considerable database to find designs in seconds.
All new 3D CAD data Bekaert creates in projects will now be managed with Model Manager.
Design and production departments in China, India, Brazil and Slovakia will draw from one central data vault at the main development site in Belgium.
"This will enable us to work with the same data concurrently, thus saving time and costs", says Vandewalle.
"Plus, leveraging existing components and designs in new projects will drive down overall costs, improve delivery times and increase quality".
Model Manager integrates with Bekaert's other IT systems so Model Manager data move from the design department to other teams via its company-wide systems, Windchill and SAP, thus enabling a lean product development environment.
"The ability to easily integrate this CoCreate solution into our existing IT landscape ensures we end up with a modular, and therefore very adaptable solution", says Vandewalle.
Bekaert Engineering works with CoCreate reseller, Savaco, Belgium.
