LAE has recently upgraded its CAD technology, adopting CoCreate's nonparametric 3D CAD software, OneSpace Designer Modeling.

LAE, based in Lugo, Italy, designs and manufactures electromechanical equipment and high-tech transformers.

With a vast network of partners worldwide, the company serves customers like ABB, Toshiba and Siemens.

Before now, the company designed all its products using CoCreate's 2D solution, OneSpace Designer Drafting.

But the technology cannot quickly meet the increasingly technical demands from the company's sophisticated customers.

Working with CoCreate reseller, EIT, LAE tried OneSpace Designer Modeling.

"We're impressed with nonparametric 3D CAD", said Mr Galignani, Technical Director at LAE.

"With OneSpace Designer Modeling, we concentrate on the model and create the best possible design".

"With other CAD tools, the focus too often is how to finesse the software to meet our needs".

As a fast-paced business, the company often needs to create changes late in the design process.

Galignani notes that Designer Modeling accommodates those changes, thus speeding production.

LAE also said that Designer Modeling required little formal learning, with engineers working like professionals within a week of adopting the software.

"We are very pleased with our choice and our early successes", said Galignani.

"Our increased productivity alone shows us that we made the right decision".
