SMC coupling suits medical applications

A Colder Products product story

Colder Products Company has developed a new SMC coupling for medical applications.

Colder Products Company has developed a new SMC coupling for medical applications.

The twist-to-connect coupling, featuring a new 5mm hose barb size, enables tubing to rotate freely when connected, preventing tubing from kinking and accidental disconnection.

The product is suitable for a wide variety of end applications, including blood pressure cuffs, surgical equipment, blood analyzers, tube sets, and analytical instrumentation.

"We recognised a need for a secure twist-to-connect coupling specifically designed for the common 5mm tubing used frequently in noninvasive blood pressure monitoring and other medical markets", says Jim Brown, Medical Business Unit Manager, Colder Products Company.

"The new SMC product is an important addition to the SMC product line and will facilitate equipment manufacturing and servicing for medical applications".

The SMC product line presents a high-quality alternative to luer-type connectors in medical applications.

The SMC product design facilitates the free rotation of tubing, protecting the fluid flow path and preventing tubing from twisting or kinking.

European legislation has prohibited luer connectors in blood pressure monitoring systems in order to prevent accidental misconnection of blood pressure and IV lines.

Made from Acetal material, the SMC coupling incorporates an O-ring seal for a leak-free connection.

The connection's shutoff valves stop flow automatically when the coupling halves are disengaged.

Operating pressures range from vacuum to 7bar and operating temperatures range from -40 to +82C.

In addition to the new 5mm hose barb, the SMC coupling is available in 0.0625in, 0.125in and 3mm hose barb sizes.
