Cooper Lighting and Security has introduced automatic self-test versions of many of its Menvier and JSB emergency luminaires.
Cooper Lighting and Security has introduced automatic self-test versions of many of its Menvier and JSB emergency luminaires.
Although it is a mandatory requirement for emergency lighting to be regularly tested and maintained in accordance with British and European standards, this can be a time-consuming and expensive process if carried out manually.
Designed to overcome these drawbacks, the new luminaires are fitted with Cooper's Intellem self-check system, which offers an easy and cost-effective solution for regular testing of emergency lighting, without requiring programming or complex setup procedures.
Consisting of a compact module that is factory fitted within the luminaires, Intellem self-check provides continuous monitoring of the mains and charger status, together with a regular testing regime that has been designed to exceed the legal requirements laid down in BS5266 and EN50172.
The module self-calibrates at initial power-up, and its onboard clock/calendar chip ensures that the appropriate tests are carried out at the correct time on the correct day.
The test timing cycle can also be manually reconfigured, if required.
An audible alarm will sound if any faults are detected by the system, and the exact nature of the fault is indicated by the flashing sequence of the luminaire's status LED.
Each Intellem luminaire is also supplied with an optional offset key, which is designed to advance the time of the testing of the luminaire by 24 hours.
By using this key in alternate luminaires, it is easy to ensure that at least half of a building's luminaires are always in a fully charged state - even if the other half have just undergone their annual full rated discharge test.
Intellem self check is available on a wide variety of Menvier and JSB emergency luminaires, including popular models such as Atlantic Plus, Britelite, Fairlite, Jubilee, New Safe Ex, Royalux and Vistral.
Some of these models can also be specified with an enhanced automatic testing system known as Intellem infra-red, which offers additional features and uses a handheld programmer for setup, interrogation and fault display.
