The majority of refrigerators attached to the front of trucks and trailers contain a diesel engine, electric motor and compressor, and a centrifugal clutch plays a crucial role.

The majority of refrigerators attached to the front of trucks and trailers contain a diesel engine, electric motor and compressor According to the required storage temperature, the diesel engine starts automatically and drives the compressor via a Combidrive centrifugal clutch

The clutch gives the diesel a load free start but also plays another role.

The electric motor can be used to drive the compressor but without back driving the diesel engine.

This alternative power source is used in "quiet" areas overnight, onboard a ferry, within a building or in any other circumstances where electric drive would be preferable.

Clutches prepared for refrigerated transport are subjected to road shocks, torsional vibrations from diesel, pulsing load from compressor, high pressure cleaning, abrasive material and wide ambient temperature variations.
