Jaguar MD to open CAD centre

The University's Computing Services Department in partnership with the School of Engineering has provided a new computer aided design centre in the Maurice Foss Building.
The CAD centre provides all the standard open-access facilities enhanced by specialist CAD software.
The centre features 30 workstations, larger desks, the latest Compaq Pentium 4 PCs with flat screen monitors, and a projector and PA system for teaching purposes.
Professor Ashraf Jawaid Dean of the School of Engineering said: "With new technologies emerging at an ever growing pace, most engineering companies expect academic institutions to respond by supplying graduates with the latest high skills in IT related areas such as CADCAM, PDM etc.
The opening of this new CAD centre maintains our position at the top with some of the few universities in the country who possess similar facilities.
The facility is designed to give students hands on experience in high level Catia software that is widely used in industry especially in automotive and aerospace sectors.
It is hoped that employers will immediately benefit from the graduates' experience in using this advanced CADCAM software".
