Coventry University has teamed up with the Auto Cycle Union (ACU), the governing body for motorcycle sport in Britain, to offer an insight into the technical and engineering side of motorcycle racing to students in the ACU Academy The academy, based in Rugby, is the motorcycle equivalent of national football academies and the ultimate goal is to see riders successfully compete at World level in Grand Prix

The collaboration will assist young riders in the ACU Academy to understand techniques in motorcycle racing, as well as how the bike operates.

This partnership is the next stage of developing British motorcycle talent and is being driven by the Centre for Motorsport and Performance Engineering at Coventry University.

Bernard Porter, Principal Lecturer in Motorsport Engineering, comments: "We are delighted to be able to help motorcycle sport in the UK achieve even more success on the world stage".

The project will see riders investigate the mechanical performance of the machine they ride.

Neil Hellings, Chief Executive of the ACU, said: "When fully underway this project will be the most exciting development in motorcycle sport in many a decade.

By looking forward and implementing a sustainable and affordable level of entry to motorcycle racing we are securing an important aspect of the Academy's development of excellence".

The Coventry University Motorsport Centre was created in 2002 to bring together motorsport organisations, industry and education.

It has rapidly gained a reputation for innovative projects and has won support from all quarters.

Building on successful experience over the last few years, there are now several collaborative projects underway involving major teams, venues and organisations, as well as government agencies.
