Student aims for national award
Coventry University student Andrew Stennett has been selected as one of four students competing in the national finals of the Association of Aerospace Universities (AAU) Trophy.
Coventry University student Andrew Stennett has been selected as one of four students competing in the national finals of the Association of Aerospace Universities (AAU) Trophy.
The competition is open to 24 universities across the UK and each institution is asked to submit its best aerospace-linked final year project for consideration.
A panel led by John Farley OBE, a former Chief Harrier Test Pilot, judges the submissions.
Student projects from Salford University, the University of West of England, and Queen's University in Belfast and Coventry have been selected for the finals.
The finals will be held at a special session of the ICSAM conference (International Conference on Superplasticity in Advanced Materials) at Oxford University.
The students are each required to give a 20min presentation on their project, selling themselves and what they did and explaining its relevance and importance to aerospace engineering and technology.
The AAU trophy is awarded to the university and the student receives a personal cheque for GBP 250.
The three runners-up will each receive GBP 50.
The AAU trophy is a Concorde-like model, named the Dr John Barnes Trophy after a founder member of the AAU.
