Kelly Robbins, 24, from Coventry will be the only woman graduating with a degree in automotive engineering from Coventry University this year Robbins has always been interested in cars and wanted to study a degree with practical applications, so engineering seemed like the right choice

Robbins explains: "I decided to study at Coventry University because it meant I could live at home and avoid at least some aspects of student debt.

I started off on a foundation course because I hadn't studied maths or physics at A-level.

I enjoyed the foundation course and was keen to learn more about the design and manufacturing side of things.

The course was not easy, in fact it was very challenging at times but it was well worth the effort and I'm glad I stuck with it".

Robbins completed a placement at Jaguar Engineering Centre at Whitley in Coventry, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Since completing her course Robbins has decided to train to be come a teacher and is currently part of a scheme which is designed to improve teaching and learning in inner-city schools.

"I'm enjoying training to become a teacher and it is very reassuring to know that I have a well-regarded degree to fall back on.

Employers recognise the value of skills taught in engineering degrees and the Coventry course is regarded as one of the best".
