CompAir has expanded its capabilities with the appointment of Mike Perkins as Manager of its Portable and Tool Division.

CompAir, the global manufacturer of compressed air and gas systems, has expanded its capabilities with the appointment of Mike Perkins as Manager of its Portable and Tool Division.

He is following in the footsteps of well-known industry professional, Tony Williams, who will be retiring from the position in May 2006 after a successful 40 years with the company.

Perkins, 56, who joined CompAir on 1st June this year, has a strong background in the pneumatics and compressed air industry and brings substantial knowledge and experience to the role.

He began his career as a Service Engineer with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, moving onto well known pneumatic tool manufacturer, CP, and finally onto Sullair where he rose to the position of Global Tool Manager.

"I missed working closely with distributors in my previous role so will relish building fresh relationships with them and ensuring that they have the resources to deliver an optimum service to our customers", explained Perkins.

In his new role he will be leading a specialised sales team of four and is highly optimistic about the coming months: "I've inherited an excellent team - one of whom I helped train myself nearly 30 years ago - and am looking forward to spending the next six months concentrating on them before additionally taking over care of our direct sales", says Perkins.

"Tony has been a great asset to CompAir and it will be a real challenge to do the role justice but I am confident that with his support the coming year will see us go from strength to strength".

His predecessor, Tony Williams, has had a long and successful career with CompAir, taking the division to UK market-leader with an impressive 40% share of the market.

He recruited Perkins himself having known him as both competitor and friend in trade circles for many years.

Williams is confident he is handing the mantle to the right man: "I'm proud of my achievements over the last 40 years and despite my pending retirement the future of the division remains important to me and I want to make sure I leave it in safe hands".

"I know Mike is a genuine, hard-working professional with a personality very similar to my own - I'm confident he will build on my successes and see CompAir retain its position as a market-leader".

Williams, who lives with his wife in Hayle, Cornwall will attempt to take it easy during his retirement but old habits die hard and having spent 27 years travelling all over the world he is already keeping himself busy with local charity work alongside his part-time handing over period at CompAir.

Mike Perkins lives in Northampton with his wife and 23-year old daughter.
