Hydrovane Senior Production Engineer Joanne Campbell has been highly commended for her contribution to UK manufacturing after being shortlisted for a prestigious CBI First Women Award.

The awards recognise the achievements of Britain's top business women.

Hydrovane is a division of CompAir.

Bob Cheshire, Managing Director of Hydrovane, was proud to see Campbell shortlisted for such a high-profile award: "Joanne is a real asset to our business".

"Her hard-work, determination and commitment to the job has seen her become a valued member of the production team, who motivates and inspires those around her".

"Her most recent achievements include being part of the team that successfully managed the new Hydrovane 11-15kW vertical range from design to running prototype in just eight weeks".

"Manufacturing is rarely awarded for its contribution to the business world and is also perceived as a very male environment".

"We are delighted that Joanne and her contribution to the industry has been recognised in this way".

The First Women Awards, held by the CBI and Real Business magazine in association with Lloyds TSB Corporate, are in their second year.

The awards are designed to celebrate achievement and identify inspiring female role models whose successes have benefited not only their own business environment, but the business world as a whole.

The awards are divided into eight business sectors: manufacturing, finance, technology, retail and property, tourism and leisure, business services, media and science.

Candidates had to go through a rigorous application process, with those who reached the category shortlists being invited for an interview by a judging academy which was co-chaired by: Sir Digby Jones, former CBI Director-General; Margaret Heffernan, author and entrepreneur; and Matthew Rock, Communications Director, Caspian Publishing.
