Power transmission specialist, Cross and Morse, is now offering an extensive range of torque limiter couplings which combine a dependable mechanical overload-protection device and shaft-coupling facilities in a single compact unit.

When used in place of separate overload-protection and shaft-coupling components, the versatile torque limiter couplings offer substantial savings in installation time and space requirements, as well as significant cost reductions.

Cross and Morse torque limiter couplings are offered with three different types of overload protection device: friction-type torque limiter, Sheargard shear-pin overload clutch, and Crossgard spring-ball overload clutch.

All types are available finish-bored and keyed to suit the user's precise requirements, typically within 48 hours.

Plain-bore versions and, for certain models, taper-lock versions, can also be supplied.

Friction-type torque limiter couplings are an ideal low-cost solution in applications where input and output shafts do not have to be synchronised, and where extended periods of over-torque operation are unlikely.

These units are offered with flexible chain couplings, and are available with operating torques from 3 Nm to 1,540 Nm.

For applications where instant disconnection of the driven device in the event of an overload is essential, Cross and Morse offers Sheargard couplings.

These incorporate easily replaceable Howden-wedge shearpins and are available with chain couplings to cover the torque range from 77 Nm to 5,398 Nm.

Models with elastomeric couplings can be supplied for torques of up to 12,000 Nm.

Guaranteed synchronisation of input and output shafts, combined with accurate overload protection and easy setting, are provided by Cross and Morse's Crossgard couplings.

Depending on the type selected, these units offer automatic or manual resetting, zero backlash, and the ability to operate continuously at speeds of up to 1,800 rpm.

Operating torques of up to 1,080 Nm can be accommodated, and most types can be supplied with either chain or elastomeric couplings.

Cross and Morse is one of the UK's leading and most experienced manufacturers of power transmission products.

The company is dedicated not only to developing and supplying products which accurately match the requirements of today's market, but also to providing unrivalled service and support for its customers.

Cross and Morse was successfully assessed by Lloyds in 1992, and is now registered as an approved manufacturer to ISO 9002:1994.
