Spur gears available in ready-to-use form

Arranging re-working for pilot-bored spur gears can be inconvenient, time-consuming and costly, which is why Cross and Morse is now offering its extensive range of spur products in ready-to-use form, finished to the customer's precise requirements.
Finishing work on the new ready-to-use products, which includes the addition of keyways and set screws, as well as finish boring, is carried out in Cross and Morse's modern manufacturing plant in Birmingham.
Here, the use of the latest manufacturing equipment means that the work is carried out rapidly, cost-effectively and to very high standards.
Spur gears ordered in ready-to-use form are normally ready for despatch within 24-hours, with a same-day service available on request for urgent orders.
In almost every case, whether the order is for just a few units or for large production quantities, the total cost of the finished gear is less than that of buying a pilot-bored component, and paying separately for re-working.
"All spur gears have to be re-worked before they can be used," said George Harris, managing director of Cross and Morse, "so why not buy them with the re-working already done? Not only does this approach save money and time, it also avoids those all-too-common disputes over who is responsible when, for example, another re-working sub-contractor produces a gear with an off-centre bore." "There can be few surer ways of making sure that the quality of the finished product is right," continued Harris, "than by having all of the machining work carried out by the original manufacturer of the product." The new ready-to-use spur gears from Cross and Morse include both steel and cast-iron types.
Steel products can be supplied in types from 1 module to 6 module with between 12 and 127 teeth, while cast-iron gears are offered from 2 module to 5 module, with between 30 and 60 teeth.
All types have a width equal to ten times the module number, to provide an optimum balance between power transmission capacity and size.
Cross and Morse is one of the UK's leading and most experienced manufacturers of power transmission products.
The company is dedicated not only to developing and supplying products which accurately match the requirements of today's market, but also to providing unrivalled service and support for its customers.
Cross and Morse was successfully assessed by Lloyds in 1992, and is now registered as an approved manufacturer to ISO 9002:1994.
