Crane Electronics' DataMaster data collector uses a range of Data Collector Interfaces (DCI) which can be set to collect data (in arrays or singly) quite independently
Crane Electronics' DataMaster data collector allows a powerful Windows computer to be taken into an industrial environment with levels of adaptability, portability and ruggedness, that far exceed the smallest, lightest palmtop or laptop PC.
Unlike all other portable computers, it is very easy to plug in almost any type of measuring instrument such as transducers and gauges.
It will capture, process, analyse and display data as a matter of routine.
This is achieved with a range of Data Collector Interfaces (DCI).
These can be set to collect data (in arrays or singly) quite independently of DataMaster.
When DataMaster is connected to these DCIs, the collected data is automatically downloaded, processed and displayed.
At the heart of the DataMaster is the Microsoft CE operating system running on a hardware platform that is completely free from any moving parts such as spinning discs.
It has been designed to take in data via easily customisable DCIs.
A large high resolution, colour, touch- sensitive screen and a number of ergonomically positioned keys provide the interface.
The product package consists of one DCI, the DataMaster and one rechargeable battery pack.
It measures 290mm x 213mm x 101mm and weighs 1.9kg.
Six function keys and an array of six navigator buttons are provided together with a 8.4" diagonal full colour, TFT LCD touch sensitive screen.
A neck strap is also provided for hands-free use and comes in a handy, portable briefcase with spaces for the battery pack, a charger, a DCI module and the user manual.
The DCI is mechanically and electrically coupled to the DataMaster.
It contains all the circuitry to communicate with it via an RS 485 port and whatever hardware / software is required to communicate with external devices.
For example, bar code readers, analogue output devices, digital output devices, and many other devices.
In addition, these DCIs can contain any specialist signal conditioning hardware / software that can process data from the Real World ready for passing on to the DataMaster.
The DCIs can also conveniently be stacked in racks and periodically connected to the DataMaster.
32 DCIs can be used with a single DataMaster.
Each DCI and DCI rack has a jack for an independent DC power supply.
DataMaster comes with standard software to enable easy communications between the office and the workshop.
