Torque testers check on performance
engines

Cosworth Technology, a major supplier of integrated powertrain solutions to the global automotive industry, has relied on Crane Electronics torque testing equipment for the past 10 years TorqueStars and CheckStars provide accurate and consistent performance at its UK engineering operation based in Northampton

The assembly activity where the Crane equipment is employed has developed a vast range of experience with low-volume engine programmes.

Cosworth Technology is currently engaged in the machining and assembly of V12 engines for the prestigious Aston Martin DB7 and Vanquish models, with engines being completely stripped down after test using the Crane equipment to ascertain that the correct tightening torque has been applied to all engine bolts.

Three Crane CheckStar rotary transducers are used by the company to measure the torque applied by air tools and hand tools to the M6, M8, M10 and M12 fasteners used throughout the engines.

A Crane TorqueStar takes readings from the transducers, with results being both shown on the large digital display as well as being able to be downloaded to a PC using Crane's PC comms software, and printed out as required.

Reliability and ruggedness of the Crane equipment is such that Cosworth Technology has used the same equipment for the last 10 years.

For line-side tool testing and calibration of air and hand torque wrenches, all the Crane products are housed in a Tool Testing Station that combines the joint kits, transducers and TorqueStar in one convenient package that is easily transported to anywhere on the production line.

Prior to investing in the Crane equipment, Cosworth Technology used traditional dial type torque wrenches. Request a free brochure from Crane Electronics ...
