The DTT Opta (digital torque tester) from Crane Electronics is a new member of the Opta product family with its hallmarks of flexibility and choice.

The DTT Opta shares its operating software with the popular TorqueStar Opta, which is already available.

It therefore offers the same modular software options that enable all Opta products to function as simple readouts or sophisticated data collectors.

Three software modules are currently available for DTT Opta: basic storage; advanced storage; and graphs.

There are already eight different permutations of the Opta available, each offering a different combination of features and price.

Each module adds enhancements to the basic DTT Opta unit.

DTT Opta effectively operates as a TorqueStar Opta with a built-in stationary transducer, so a user could switch between the two products without the confusing issue of different software routines.

However, further flexibility is offered since the transducer is an interchangeable module allowing a selection of modules to be available to the operator to cover a broad torque range.

The range of transducer modules initially comprises 1, 4, 12 and 30Nm, and each size is available with either a vertical or a horizontal transducer axis.

An option for a built-in printer completes the truly flexible package that is housed in a robust cast aluminium case.

The basic DTT Opta unit without additional software modules operates as a simple yet comprehensive readout with no data storage, performing peak, click, impulse and track measurements.

It also features switchable autoprint of date and time stamped readings.

The basic storage and statistics module offers a 200 reading memory enabling simple statistics to be viewed and printed.

A special feature is the capability to flag individual readings with a "cause and action" where applicable.

The advanced storage and SPC module adds full jobs and rounds functionality, optional data and comment fields can be enabled and so the customer decides how he wants to configure the data being collected.

The graphs module allows the DTT Opta to display run-down traces of the fastening process.

This can be added to the DTT Opta without any other modules being required.

Thus if only a simple readout is needed with graphical capability, then Opta can offer this.

OptaComms is a combined package comprising the enabling of the DTT Opta unit for PC connection and together with PC based communications software allows the archiving of data to a PC.

This also facilitates the creation and maintenance of DTT Opta job files on the PC with two-way communication with the DTT Opta unit.
