Process package gets to grips with torque data
Control Opta is a new leading-edge assembly process management solution from Crane Electronics.
Control Opta is a new leading-edge assembly process management solution from Crane Electronics.
It networks all torque measurement stations within an enterprise enabling centralised real time SPC based process control and giving complete torque traceability.
The system is web based and data input is provided through torque tools in the Crane Opta range.
This presents new advantages across the production process from operator onwards via supervisor up to senior management.
As a torque measurement and SPC system is only as good as its data inputs, the Opta platform strategy is making the operation of torque tools as time-saving and intuitive as possible.
Whether it is a rotary transducer, data collector or wrench, operator faults are avoided by a common tool interface and menu structure.
This is further strengthened through automatic recognition between Opta tools by ?plug and play? technology.
The operator can thus concentrate on the actual measurement process and torque readings are fed to the Control Opta system.
The software system, Control Opta, collects the data and offers powerful SPC analysis, as well as control and data management to supervisors and management.
Out of condition alarms are a key feature of the system, enabling automatic e-mail and SMS alerts to supervisors with automatic escalation routings as appropriate.
Individuals with appropriate access rights can view the assembly process on their intranet, or if they are off-site on the internet.
They are no longer constrained by geographical location.
For complex assembly operations, the system can help to ensure that supervisors fulfil test quotas and complete recordings requirements.
It can also provide reports on supervisor and team effectiveness.
The system provides complete traceability of changes to programming as well as data input.
Historical values are recorded and can be used to generate trend information or highlight assembly problems.
As a web enabled system, the software has simple deployment across a company?s intranet, eliminating time consuming setup on individuals PCs.
The system also interfaces with a company?s existing database such as SQL and Oracle databases.

Tool controllers optimise automobile production
The TMAC Opta tool controller has been able to process data and withstand the harsh environment of a production line assembling up to 1500 diesel engines per day. -
Digital torque wrench cuts filing for car maker
As the minimum and maximum torque values are held within the wrench, it will then inform the operator via tri-colour LEDS if the readings are low, high or exact. -
Torque tools ease engine quality control
The ProWrench Opta electronic wrench is point of load insensitive, which means results will be reliable even when it is being used at odd angles. -
Torque wrenches offer best of both worlds
Torque tool is designed to meet the demands of both shop floor operatives and quality management personnel. -
Torque control meets automotive safety standards
Bentley Motors purchased five Crane mobile torque test stations, with one being located in the engine build area and four in the final assembly areas.
