Digital wrench promises safer torque
control

A new digital torque and angle wrench offers higher accuracy for tightening safety critical joints.

The new digital torque and angle wrench from Crane Electronics offers higher accuracy for tightening safety critical joints Tension or clamp force determines whether a screw has been properly tightened or not

Factors such as cross threading can give the false impression of high enough torque while the clamp force is well below the required specification.

In order to avoid this, a second parameter, otherwise known as angle measurement, is used to ensure the fastener has been tightened correctly.

Angle measurement comes as an optional feature on Crane's ProWrench Opta.

The digital wrench can be specified either as "torque only" or "torque and angle", and offers various modes of measurement from simple torque tracking through to measuring the yield point.

It is a powerful tool that can be used in both the quality audit and production control environments.

It has been designed to audit the residual values of a pre-tightened joint, or to be used as a tool for low volume tightening or rectification applications.

ProWrench Opta allows full traceability.

It can store torque and angle data, as well as information of who used the wrench, what work was done with it, and when it was carried out.

Software features can be individually specified to give a configuration most suited to the user's requirements.

As needs change, the wrench can be upgraded with additional software functionality.

By "flashing" the software, changes can be implemented almost as soon as they are needed.

Upper and lower limits can be set to enable indication of high, OK or low fastener status.

Both audible and visual alarms alert the user if a measurement doesn't fall within the set limits.

Bidirectional communication via a serial port (or an optional Bluetooth connection) to a PC gives the facility to quickly set up the wrench and easily store data from the wrench.

The wrench provides comprehensive SPC analysis, which can be viewed either on the wrench or on a PC.

In addition data can be saved as a trace, which has detailed resolution due to the superior sampling rate of the wrench.

A number of graphs of these traces can be stored and easily transferred to a PC for detailed study and manipulation.

All wrenches can be password protected, ensuring that no unauthorised person can change the settings or manipulate the readings. Request a free brochure from Crane Electronics ...
