Motorsport Mathematics is a novel website designed to encourage school children with their studies and show that maths is used in a whole host of exciting ways.

Cranfield University has launched an innovative and easy to use website combining key stage maths and sciences with motorsport principles to encourage school children with their studies and show that maths is used in a whole host of exciting ways.

Motorsport Mathematics - www.racemath.info - has been designed to not only improve awareness of the fundamental science and engineering which underpins motorsport but also to highlight to school children the relevance and practical use of these skills in industry.

The website has been sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and has received a great deal of support from several key figures from the world of motorsport.

Pat Symonds, Executive Director of Engineering for Renault F1, said: "I have been involved with Cranfield for many years and have always been impressed with how innovative they are".

"This website is no exception, it is a great way of teaching children about maths and physics in a way that they can easily understand and relate to".

"It is essential that these skills are learnt at an early age and I am pleased to support any activity which encourages learning".

The site covers the major areas for key stages one to four of the national curriculum.

Bringing to life areas such as force, gravity, speed, friction and energy transfer by using example from the world of motorsport, the site aims to illustrate just how these theories are used within this exciting and fast-moving sport.
