The gas monitoring specialist Crowcon has launched a fixed detector to combat occasional risks posed by flammable gases A low-cost alternative to specialist devices which are certified for use in explosive atmospheres, Flamsafe-4/20 is an uncertified detector suitable for "everyday" environments where flammable gases may be present from time to time

Modular versions for gas and fire monitor
Vortex, the multi-channel gas and fire monitoring system from Crowcon, is now available in three new configurations to suit different types of installation
Gas monitor checks four hazards at once
A new multichannel personal gas monitor from Crowcon combines sophisticated data management features with the simplicity of operation normally found in basic one-gas instruments.
Combined with a suitable control panel, it can detect gas leaks in boiler rooms, fuel vapour in filling stations, methane seepage from landfill sites and many other flammable gas hazards.
The detector can be used singly for one-point monitoring or as part of a network to protect a wider area.
Because it produces an industry standard 4-20 mA output, Flamsafe-4/20 is compatible with a wide range of single- and multi-channel control panels.
In simple installations requiring only one detector, Crowcon's single-channel Gasflag is an ideal controller.
Flamsafe-4/20 features a pellistor, a versatile sensor which can detect not only volatile hydrocarbons but also hydrogen and ammonia.
Although conventional sensors of this type suffer from poisoning, or reduced performance, in the presence of lead, silicon and halogens, the pellistor used by Crowcon is poison-resistant to ensure sustained accuracy.
The detector is easily installed wherever hazard monitoring is required.
Wall-mounting in a low position is suitable for heavy gases, such as butane, while lighter gases like methane are best monitored at a high level, ideally with an optional collector cone fitted to the sensor.
Additional options include a swivel mounting bracket for installation in awkward corners, and a weatherproof sensor cap providing IP66 protection for detectors mounted in exposed places.
Flamsafe-4/20 has a durable GRP housing and weighs 0.7 kg. Request a free brochure from Crowcon Detection Instruments ...
