Resistor manufacturer Cressall has become the first supplier to achieve World Class status in a new rating system introduced by Alstom Power Conversion.
Resistor manufacturer Cressall has become the first supplier to achieve World Class status in a new rating system introduced by Alstom Power Conversion.
The company includes Cressall's dynamic braking resistors, or DBRs, with its variable speed drives as a safe means of dissipating excess electrical energy when motors are slowed or stopped.
The scoring system rates suppliers for product quality, punctual delivery, and overall service.
Records for the most recent quarter show that Cressall achieved 99 out of a possible 100, seven points ahead of its nearest rival in the 'league table'.
Only scores of 98 and over are deemed to be World Class.
Alstom Power Conversion, which is based near Stoke-on-Trent in the West Midlands of England, combines Cressall's packaged DBRs with its ALSPA MV3000 range of AC drives.
Industries using the drives include water and waste treatment, renewable energy, petrochemicals, marine propulsion and cement production.
The resistors provide reliable, rapid motor control for pumps, fans, compressors, extruders and lifting gear in applications where stopping without a dynamic brake would be inefficient or unsafe.
Phil Waite, product development manager at Alstom Power Conversion, comments on the ongoing relationship between the two companies: "Cressall was happy to work with us to ensure that we got the products we wanted.
"We now have a range of DBRs which precisely matches our requirements in terms of power ratings and enclosure sizes".
