High-rigidity actuator copes with radial
loads
The latest version of the ServoTube actuator can support a radial load of up to 10kg in a single standard part.
The new Xenus drive and ServoTube actuator combination is the latest advance in user-friendly industrial actuation from Copley Controls, now supporting a radial load of up to 10kg in a single standard part The ServoTube High Rigidity builds on the ServoTube's simplified linear motion concept with a fully contained, single part industrial actuator

Linear motor claims many productivity advantages
The ServoTube linear motor is the new workhorse from Copley Controls, offering compelling productivity advantages over ballscrews, belt drives and pneumatic positioners.
Linear actuator produces more power
Producing 1860N peak force the ServoTube 38 extends linear motor-based actuation to heavier duty applications.
The original ServoTube actuator launched earlier this year broke new ground using a moving rod rather than forcer.
The new high rigidity version independently supports a radial load, simplifying machine integration.
Greater mechanical precision is ensured by the use of integral outrigger bearings in a single, standard component.
Whereas the standard ServoTube is ideal for light x- or y- and general z-axis application, a high rigidity unit can support a substantial radial load.
For example, supporting 5kg produces a deflection at the load of less than 1mm when extended 200mm.
The absence of an external encoder reduces cost, simplifies cabling ensuring the actuator is rugged for industrial use.
The whole construction is IP67 rated, so that it can be used in dirty and washdown environments.
"This high rigidity version can support a radial load, so is a natural replacement for ballscrew and belt driven linear slides", said Mike Cowan, Managing Director.
"The big advantage here is that there are no conflicting bearings".
"We know from problems our competitors are having that a tubular linear motor with a shaft bearing may work well on its own, but that once this is integrated into a module with outrigger bearings there are often problems with jamming", he added.
The new Xenus and high rigidity ServoTube combination is ideal for application in materials handling, automated assembly and packaging.
The ServoTube High Rigidity actuator uses industry standard mounting accessories and includes an actuator brake option.
It will be available from the end of September.
