New steel has environmental issues covered
Neotec is a lead-free metallic-coated steel specifically designed to help vehicle manufacturers develop emission-free fuel tanks that meet future environmental and recycling legislation.
Steel bar targets internal combustion engines
Fractim is a new steel bar product designed to bring cost savings to the automotive supply chain and meet increasing performance specifications required by next generation internal combustion engines.
Typical autosport applications that can benefit from Corus steels include differentials, driveshafts, suspension, transmission and power trains.
High strength and extra clean steels provide increased fatigue resistance, allowing designers to use less material in critical components without compromising performance.
The ability to produce the highest integrity double and triple melted steels adds another dimension by improving materials response to tri-axial stress environments enabling optimum design and weight distribution of vital components, such as the transmission, one of the most highly stressed components in any racing car.
The decision to exhibit again at motorsport's major annual exhibition underlines Corus' drive to grow its supply of material to the industry in 2004.
Commenting on the decision, Chris Dale, Corus Engineering Steels, said: "Corus has a proven track record of working closely with Xtrac, Quaife, Cosworth and other key autosports component suppliers and race teams.
This has developed over a number of years from our expertise in other high tech industries such as aerospace.
Boeing, Rolls Royce and Airbus all require high quality, high performance steel products - Formula 1, Indy and rally cars are no different".
In addition, Corus has worked closely with the mainstream automotive industry to help address the ongoing need to reduce vehicle weight to improve fuel economy and emissions without compromising safety or importantly performance and brings this experience to the autosports arena.
Dale concludes: "We're far more than a simple materials supplier with over 150 years in the metals business, and 50 years at the cutting edge of automotive design.
Autosport International provides a good opportunity for Corus to demonstrate how this extensive material expertise can help meet the growing demands of the motorsport industry". Request a free brochure from Corus Automotive ...
