Over 40 JCB engineers, manufacturing and quality managers have attended a "Steel awareness" seminar hosted by Corus.
Over 40 JCB engineers, manufacturing and quality managers attended a "Steel awareness" seminar hosted by Corus, the international steel company, on Thursday 21st September at JCB's world headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire.
The first of its kind, the seminar was designed to provide key JCB employees with an insight into more advanced materials and to show how these modern steels can offer specific solutions for a range of applications.
Representatives from Corus shared information on the wide range of steel products and related processing services the company already supply to JCB, and those they are developing.
These range from strip and tubes to heavy plate for numerous applications including chassis structures, loader arm and attachment assemblies and hydraulic systems.
Commenting on the value of the seminar, Dr David Panni, Group Structures Manager, JCB, said: "Material choice plays an important part in the design, development and manufacture of our world-leading products".
"The seminar has proved very popular and this improved knowledge will importantly enable us to select and make the best possible use of the steels that Corus can supply".
JCB is key strategic customer to Corus.
The wide variety of products and services supplied from Corus businesses located both in the UK and Europe range from hot-rolled strip and plate steels, engineering steel bars to tubes as well as special profiled beams and sections.
Applications cover almost all aspects of construction equipment and vehicles including chassis and cab structures, loader arm and attachment assemblies, telescopic booms, hydraulic systems, bucket and shovel cutting shapes and the shoes of tracked earth-moving vehicles.
