Sensor data acquired by low power radio

A Celsum Technologies product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 23, 2004

The TDM is a portable, battery-powered radio transceiver and display for strain gauge based sensors such as load cells, pressure transducers, strain, torque and displacement sensors.

The TDM is a completely portable, battery-powered radio transceiver and display for strain gauge based sensors such as load cells, pressure transducers, strain, torque and displacement sensors which are fitted with one of Celsum's compatible strain gauge conditioning amplifiers-cum-radio transceivers.

Two separate ranges are selectable, which enables the TDM to read and display two values, and the TDM will allow signals to be selected from up to 20 remote instruments.

Sealed in a robust ABS housing to IP65/NEMA 4, the TDM requires only six tactile keys for operation.

Gross or net, peak and trough functions may be selected.

Remote devices may be zeroed and tared, and the incoming signal digitally filtered if so desired.

A remote shunt calibration facility is provided, as is a remote battery check.

Data are encrypted for complete security, and the unit is available with two frequencies for use in the EU or the USA and Canada.

Weighing only 250g, the TDM has a 7.5-digit LCD, 8.8-mm high, together with eight status annunciators for the range selected, local and remote low battery warning, error, peak, trough and net.

The instrument has two programmable ranges, which are operator selectable, and is very simple to operate once configured.

Using a pair of alkaline batteries, the TDM will operate with a 350ohm strain gauge continuously for 35h, or up to 5000h in low power mode.

Celsum's Technologies' Managing Director, Roy Carter, said: "The TDM is a robust and compact unit which complements our range of radio telemetry, digital and analogue strain gauge conditioning amplifiers and process control instruments".
