Rheometer expands labs testing services

A Celsum Technologies product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 5, 2007

Capillary extrusion rheometer allows testing of materials over a wide range of shear rates and temperatures.

Celsum Technologies has supplied a top-of-the-range ACR 2100 capillary extrusion rheometer to Gammadot Rheology Testing and Consultancy Services to allow testing of materials over a wide range of shear rates and temperatures.

A capillary extrusion rheometer is a very accurately controlled piston-driven extruder which allows the test material to be expressed at a series of user-defined speeds through precision-engineered orifices or dies, and the pressure generated at each speed is recorded.

The characteristic graph or rheogram is useful for predicting processing behaviour and may also be used to deduce information about the specimen's chemical and physical nature.

As such, it is an extremely useful tool for analysing and trouble-shooting processing problems.

Said Roy Carter, MD of Celsum: "We are extremely pleased to be able to help Gammadot to enhance their established range of rheological testing services with the addition of this fine instrument".

The ACR 2100 rheometer has a maximum pressure capability of 2100bar and maximum temperature of 450C, allowing many types of materials to be tested under realistic processing conditions.

As well as shear viscosity, the ACR 2100 may be used to determine extensional viscosity, pressure coefficient of viscosity, no-flow temperature, and other process-relevant parameters.

Mark Edwards, Principal of Gammadot, said: "I am delighted that we have a new capillary rheometer to add to our current suite of test equipment".

"This will expand the range of contract research and testing services that we can offer our customers, and will greatly assist our development".
