Electrical design suite comes up to date
The Medea electrical design suite, part of CAD Schroer's comprehensive PLM offering, includes a series of specialist electrical design applications.
CAD Schroer Group (CSG) has released version 2006 of Medea, the renowned Medusa Electrical Design Application for specialist power and control system providers.
"The key words to describe the latest release include flexibility, usability and time-savings", explains Peter van der Heij, long-standing Medea expert in the Netherlands.
"Our customers, typically mechanical and electrical engineering companies, will be especially pleased to see new intelligence for collaborative engineering in areas like PLC symbols; and new dynamic linkages between components will further improve design speed and consistency".
The upgrade is free of charge for all of CSG's maintenance-paying clients.
The Medea electrical design suite, part of CAD Schroer's comprehensive PLM offering, includes a series of specialist electrical design applications.
Customers laud its unrivalled data management approach, and are passionate about the system's capabilities, many working in close partnership with CSG's developers through all stages of the release cycle.
Medea's unified data model allows users to percolate changes in a component throughout its design history by automatically synchronising all data views, making it an immense productivity tool.
Medea 2006 sports a whole new and intuitive user interface to bring it in line with CAD Schroer's modern product range.
Its clean, consistent look and feel is enhanced by a Medusa4-compliant icon set.
Users benefit from simplified component selection, and bi-directional updates between sheet data and data represented in GUI windows is now the norm.
As a result, creating and especially modifying electrical design data has become quicker and easier than ever before.
Excellent for collaborative engineering, Medea's new intelligent PLC symbols allow users to assign technical messages in different languages to PLC bit addresses, and export this information for use by planning and commissioning engineers.
Changes in the field can then be imported and merged as design changes in Medea.
Improving clarity and design editing times, the new component browser makes it easy to browse existing sheet components, with dynamic references to the circuit diagram.
Selected list elements are highlighted on the diagram and vice versa, with the ability to quickly edit selections via the component manager.
As another time-saving enhancement, Medea now includes a number of example macro circuits (such as rotary star-delta circuits), which customers can use, edit and save as symbols for future design projects.
Users' existing macro circuits can also be stored as symbols for reuse, saving significant amounts of editing time.
The new layout diagram feature allows users to document the mechanical construction of electrical cabinets.
The diagram uses information already available from the circuit/wiring/terminal strip design, making the completion of the mechanical layout design very simple.
In aid of today's multi-lingual, interdependent design environment, the new catalogue selection dialog provides easy access to symbol libraries for specific customers or suppliers, with quick symbol language selection.
The improved catalogue tree also provides a handy symbol preview function.
Users can now easily select and copy whole or parts of designs between projects.
"Customer loyalty is one of our hallmarks", explains Michael Schroer, the company's Founding Director.
"We work hard to retain that loyalty by offering customers a sound partnership based on engineering knowhow, and constant proof - by way of regular software updates and releases with innovative cost-saving productivity tools - that their maintenance money is well-spent".
