Cutler-Hammer has been awarded a contract by Crown Castle UK to supply switchgear for their Crystal Palace transmission station which serves 13 million people in the London area

Cutler-Hammer, manufacturer of industrial controls and circuit protection equipment, has been awarded a contract by Crown Castle UK, a subsidiary of Crown Castle International Corp to supply switchgear for their Crystal Palace transmission station.

The Cutler-Hammer low-voltage switchboard will be used to upgrade and replace older equipment to provide power distribution at the London site, owned and operated by Crown Castle.

The Crystal Palace station serves 13 million people in the London area, broadcasting the BBC's analogue and digital television and radio programmes and forms part of the world's first ever commercial Digital Terrestrial Television network for ONdigital.

Cutler-Hammer won the contract after a competitive tendering process and will install the low-voltage distribution switchboard with four Air Circuit Breakers (ACB) incomers and through-switching, by the end of July.

The Cutler-Hammer switchgear will integrate with Crystal Palace's existing power distribution system, and will be manually controlled on site.

Cutler-Hammer has previously worked with Crown Castle, installing switchgear for the Crystal Palace digital transmitters and a number of ACB switchboards at some of their television and radio transmission sites across the United Kingdom.

John Ward, Managing Director, Broadcast at Crown Castle commented: "Crystal Palace is one of our key transmitters and we are constantly upgrading and improving the quality of service we output on behalf of our customers.

Following a competitive tender, we selected Cutler-Hammer because they offered a reliable and cost-effective solution."
