Cutler-Hammer has launched Cutler-Hammer Protect 2000, a powerful circuit protection product selection tool which allows users to 'drag and drop' Cutler-Hammer products into a proposed network

Cutler-Hammer, the world-leading manufacturer of industrial controls and circuit protection equipment, has launched Cutler-Hammer Protect 2000, a powerful circuit protection product selection tool The Protect 2000 software package allows specifiers, consultants, designers and OEMs to 'drag and drop' Cutler-Hammer products into a proposed network and quickly and easily test their suitability

The software, unveiled first in the UK, will be rolled out globally over the next year and can be regularly updated and enhanced over the Internet.

Protect 2000 enables users to select the optimum circuit protection device for their proposed network from Cutler-Hammer's industry-leading range of IEC distribution products, drastically reducing the time taken to prepare essential discrimination studies by removing the need for extensive consultation of manufacturer product documentation.

Network designers can be confident that the products they select discriminate, therefore ensuring safety and continuity of supply in critical situations.

The software runs on all Pentium 200 PCs of 32MB RAM or higher specification, and has been specifically designed for Cutler-Hammer by AMTECH Limited.

Cutler-Hammer's Protect 2000 can display a study of up to four Cutler-Hammer protective device characteristic curves on a log/log graph, demonstrating how the devices and their settings can be selected to maximise discrimination under fault conditions.

Unlike other software, Protect 2000 provides separate overcurrent and Earth Fault views for each study.

In addition, BS88 fuses can be included in the display where Cutler-Hammer products need to be added to an existing fuse-protected network, as can Cutler-Hammer HV relays.

Protect 2000 also enables users to include details of transformers and cables with circuit protective devices in a single line diagram and calculate prospective fault currents for each device.

Where the level of prospective short circuit fault current exceeds the interrupting capacity of the protective device, a warning message is displayed indicating a fault capacity has been exceeded.

Protect 2000 is capable of providing evidence that the selected products will: Adequately interrupt any fault currents that would occur on the network; Disconnect excess currents in all parts of the network without undue delay; Minimise interruptions to supplies under fault conditions by providing discrimination between protective circuits.

It also demonstrates the flexibility and accuracy of circuit breakers compared to fuses.
