Cutler-Hammer is to provide power management for London's largest commercial office building.

An HV circuit breaker order forms part of £160 million refurbishment and redevelopment programme at new CityPoint building Cutler-Hammer, the world-leading manufacturer of industrial controls and circuit protection equipment, has announced an order for its High Voltage switchgear from Wates City of London Properties plc, the leading property investment and development company.

The order is part of a ?160 million refurbishment and redevelopment programme for the new CityPoint building, which is the largest single commercial office building to be constructed in the city of London.

The switchgear will provide power management for the building, which is fed by a 9 MVA supply from London Electricity.

The Cutler-Hammer 11KV 630A switchboard will be installed by approved System Builder E and I Engineering Limited, which won the contract to provide switchgear for the redeveloped office block from main mechanical and electrical contractors AMEC Capital Projects Limited.

The 36-storey CityPoint building, previously the headquarters of BP, has been stripped back to its concrete skeleton and completely redeveloped to increase its lettable office floor area by 75 per cent, to around 55,100 square metres.

Now effectively pre-let to 75 per cent of its capacity, CityPoint's first blue-chip tenants moved into the building in September and include leading US law firm, Simpson, Thacher and Bartlett.

Cathal McLaughlin, Senior Project Manager at E and I Engineering, said: "CityPoint has a huge power requirement, with electricity being distributed at high voltage to avoid power loss.

It was essential that the switchgear installed was of a high standard of workmanship and reliability.

Having worked with Cutler-Hammer for many years, we were confident that its safe, reliable and cost-effective products, combined with our systems building and installation expertise, would fit the bill perfectly.".
