Eaton is to provide its Cutler-Hammer switchboards for GPU Power UK's Burslem sub-station which services 100,000 people in the Stoke-on-Trent region
Sub station all packaged up for Eastern Europe
Arran Controls actively promotes the benefit of containerisation to the customer and used this technique successfully to meet an order from Eastern Europe for a containerised package sub station
For the first time, this will eliminate the wait for units to be assembled and shipped from the US, significantly accelerating the process of configuring circuit breakers to meet the precise requirements of the circuit protection market.
The UK Component Assembly Centre reduces order times for Moulded Case Circuit Breakers from between four and six weeks to around three days, and for Magnum Air Circuit Breakers from between six and eight weeks to around a week.
It consists of a new production assembly line and testing area, with dedicated configuration software generating a product-unique 25 digit code that ensures only valid breakers are configured.
This is combined with a testing facility to check newly manufactured circuit breakers for faults, ensuring quality control and a 100 per cent match with customer requirements.
"The market for circuit protection solutions is constantly evolving so there is an increasing requirement to turn orders around quickly.
Consequently, the ability to reduce our delivery times by 80 per cent is a major development in Eaton's drive to continually improve our service," said David Sturge, UK Marketing Manager for Eaton.
"Previously we stocked completed breakers, which meant we had a large inventory.
If a customer's requirement didn't match an assembly that we had in stock, then it had to be built from scratch in the US.
Now we have a system that has built-in flexibility and competitive delivery lead times." The new initiative was implemented following a nine-month consultation and development phase, and forms part of the worldwide Eaton Business Systems drive, which aims to review and improve business processes across the Group.
