Model manager aids 2D-3D interoperability
Aveva Solutions has developed a new model management solution.
VNET will offer a 3D engineering data portal product that will deliver web-based access to a consolidated 3D plant model regardless of its authoring CAD platforms.
It will run stand-alone or as part of a company's own enterprise information portal.
The technology is designed to provide accessible, intelligent 3D model viewing and collaborative working to the standard desktop without the need for special equipment or software.

Jamie Buchanan is to head up the new Product Design and Development Division at virtual engineering specialist Altair Engineering.
This will allow the 3D model to be used more effectively across the whole project life cycle and by all disciplines, irrespective of global location.
VNET 3D Portal will receive CAD models through an automated and managed adapter system that will link to all leading 3D modelling systems in use by the process plant industry today.
It will use the same foundation technology as the rest of the VNET suite to link to other information sources such as P and ID's, databases and documents, giving an integrated asset management solution that is independent of the various information sources.
The portal will offer context sensitive navigation and display by task, discipline or other criteria.
It will be extendable to other information sources so that the 3D model may be used for decision support and reporting with centralised management of publishing, mark-up and storage.
Commenting on the agreement, Richard Longdon, Chief Executive of Aveva Group, said: "We are very excited about the agreement with RealityWave.
Whilst Vantage Plant Design Review (formerly Review Reality) will remain our leading solution for high fidelity viewing and video animation, the VizStream platform is clearly the best in class of streaming solutions and offers us the ability to extend 3D visualisation to part of a global engineering information management solution.
RealityWave is a very focused company that has a high level of synergy with Aveva.
Both development teams will be working to ensure that the VNET 3D Portal solution is very successful".
Rob Glasier, Vice President of RealityWave added, "From the beginning, the VizStream enterprise platform was devised to be the ideal platform on which to develop and enhance collaborative applications.
Aveva's new VNET suite offers tremendous advantage for design and manufacturing teams.
As the leader in 3D plant visualisation, it is a tremendous endorsement to have Aveva choose to develop with the VizStream platform.
This agreement cements VizStream's reputation as being the technology of choice for 3D plant visualisation and collaboration in the process plant industries".
