The Vantage Enterprise NET (VNET) family of products is a unique engineering collaboration and integration platform for the plant life cycle.

The Vantage Enterprise NET (VNET) family of products is a unique engineering collaboration and integration platform for the plant life cycle Designed from the outset to be open, flexible and web-centric, VNET delivers an integrated approach to engineering portals, data handover between capital and operations phases, data warehousing, global collaboration and integration of engineering project applications

VNET will provide a blueprint for engineering contractors and owner operators to implement holistic and sustainable engineering IT strategies.

It enables easier and more effective use and sharing of engineering information in the context of each user's working environment, rather than being limited to a specific document or application 'view'.

VNET supplements generic enterprise application integration (EAI) middleware with an engineering 'brain' and application 'gateways' to give context to engineering information and make it more rewarding.

It employs the empirical ISO15926 data model using templates, flexible, simple XML standards and web technology.

This approach secures the independence of engineering data with low cost of ownership, good interoperability and unlimited flexibility in implementation.

The first packaged VNET solution is VNET Navigator, which provides engineering projects with a collaborative web environment for sharing 2D P and ID and 3D model databases and their deliverables.

Intelligent, related engineering content is shared securely within the project community and by invitation with the wider enterprise of clients, vendors and contractors.

Ian Bishop, Business Systems Manager, Foster Wheeler Energy commented on the new platform: "We consider VNET to be a ground breaking product which uniquely offers true, ISO standards-based integration between document and data-centric environments.

It will be a key enabler in greatly improving all aspects of managing information quality, accessibility and visualisation throughout the plant lifecycle".

Derek Middlemas, Vice-President, Strategic Programmes at Aveva, commented: "Successful engineering IT strategies focus on information integration and content management, not on the software applications themselves.

VNET provides an environment where engineering information lives and thrives; any software application can be integrated into the projects information workflow in a pragmatic and evolutionary manner.

It can be considered as the 'plant DNA', providing the information map, growth plan and management of information paths throughout the plant lifecycle".
