Extended range of universal plastic optic fibres

A Datasensor product story

Datasensor has extended its range even further with the addition of the recently-updated OF series of universal plastic optic fibres from Bologna-based IES.

The updated range supports the TEN series fibre optic sensors in a number of ways.

Firstly, it brings a range of new OF models and accessories to the market.

It also separates universal optic fibres from those dedicated to specific sensors.

The new range also standardises and clarifies universal fibre denominations, while retaining compatibility with competitor products.

All the new optic fibres come with a plastic core, typically of polymethylmethacrylate, coated with polyethylene.

Optic heads are constructed of nickel-plated brass.

Standard fibres come with an external diameter of 2.2mm, an internal diameter of 1mm, a bending radius of 25mm and an operating temperature range of -40 to +60°C.

They can be used for both through-beam and coaxial proximity detection.

In addition to the standard fibres, the HT high-temperature versions can work up to 125°C, while the XF and UF versions offer much more flexibility.

Another variation, the HP high-performance fibre, has an internal diameter of 1.5mm rather than 1mm, which increases both sensitivity and operating distance.

OF series accessories include various additional lenses for focusing, collimating, or deviating the beam, together with protective metal sheaths, diameter adapters for thin fibres and cutting tools.

The AF-2 collimating lens, for example, increases four-fold the distance obtainable with the OF-43 through-beam optic fibres.

Similarly, the AF-11 accessory is a much-improved revision of the earlier PLC01 cutting tool.

Following a study of main competitors, the new OF range has also been designed to overcome problems of incompatibility with other companies' products.

New OF models are all now compatible with products manufactured by both Keyence and Omron.
