The S80L-Y series is an innovative laser distance sensor based on time-of-flight measurement.

The new Datasensor S80L-Y series offers an innovative laser distance sensor with time-of-flight measurement This technology, based on the measurement of the time between the emission and receipt of laser light pulses, provides a very accurate measurement independent of the target's colour, over a range of 300 to 4000mm, with a resolution of 0.9mm and linearity less than 0.3%

The class 2 laser emission produces a visible red spot, which aids the alignment of the sensor with the object to be detected.

The Datasensor S80L-Y can be used as a double threshold proximity sensor with high-precision background suppression.

A four-digit display, on the top of the sensor shows the value of the measured distance in mm, as well as the background suppression and response time parameters that are set with the three pushbuttons.

The Datasensor S80L-Y sensors are available with either dual NPN or PNP outputs, that can be set a to switch anywhere in its 300 to 4000mm range, whilst the measurement value is given as a 4-20mA analogue output and through the RS485 serial interface, the latter of which can also be used to set the sensing parameters without the need to use the setup pushbuttons.

Other auxiliary functions available as standard are selectable time delays and external synchronisation.
