"Typically as much as 50% of faults in a safety system can be caused by the valve, and as much as 25% by the associated control components such as the solenoid valve and quick dump valves", commented Derek Essam Drallim Industries Sales and Marketing Director.
"The SVM from Drallim uses modern day computing power along with sophisticated on line testing techniques to virtually eliminate the valve and its associated controlling devices as sources of failure in these critical applications".
"The Smart Valve Monitoring system allows for increased frequency of testing, without compromising the probability of failure on demand (PFD) of the emergency valve associated with other methods of testing, such as proportional control systems", said Essam.
Easily retrofitted and suitable for any size or type of valve and actuator package, the Smart Valve Monitoring system can be used on pneumatic or hydraulic actuated ESD valves.
Regular testing and monitoring of the performance of ESD valves and associated control elements can lead to the saving of thousands of dollars from unexpected downtime and a significant improvement in the availability of the safety instrumented system.
When used on emergency shutdown valves, the Smart Valve Monitoring system (SVM): gives advanced warning of potential problems; has self-diagnostic capabilities to abort the test process if needed; allows for fast online testing at the emergency valves full closure speed, unlike proportionally controlled systems; is fully automated or operator controlled giving time and date stamping on all test results.
Testing is conducted online without disruption to the process.
