With the dataTaker DT600 logger plus DeLogger Pro software, Boots tests its hairdryer range with approximately 60 thermocouples mounted in front of the hairdryer
Boots are renowned for the quality of their Boots brand products and the care taken in their development.
Hairdryers are just one example where Boots' requirements exceed those of British Standards.
For many years Boots have measured airflow temperature using an adaption of an Underwriters Laboratories test and imposed a voluntary limit which has been adopted widely throughout the industry.
Historically, the data was logged manually, which was very labour intensive.
With the dataTaker DT600 logger plus DeLogger Pro software, Boots measure the temperature of the airflow with approximately 60 thermocouples mounted in front of the hairdryer.
Readings are logged, with an average of the hottest five.
The information is then downloaded to a PC and displayed on a Lotus spreadsheet, taking out the ambient readings with a resultant value calculated to ensure safe operation by the consumer.
Boots found using the dataTaker to be extremely fast, combined with easy to interpret graphical displays and repeatable readings.
The logger selected was the DT600 featuring an integral display with 10 differential or 30 single-ended analogue channels and solid state multiplexer.
Facilities include scanning of sensors, making instantaneous measurements and forwarding them to a computer in real time; applying sensor calibrations and carrying out statistical and other calculations such as average, standard deviation, maximum or minimum.
The many features of the DT600 can benefit all types of businesses, large or small, who need more information to continually improve efficiency.
